Mahatma Gandhi University is one of the premier institutions for higher learning in India. It was foundered on 2nd October 1983, the 115th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, by an Act of Government of Kerala.
School of Environmental Sciences came into existence in 1995 as a centre of learning in the frontier of areas of environmental sciences. It is one of the premier departments for advanced environmental studies under Mahatma Gandhi University.
Government of Kerala has identified the School for the establishment of an Inter-university Centre, Advanced Centre of Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development. It has been envisaged as a common centre where all branches of Science, Social Science as well as Humanities converge so as to facilitate the conduct of programmes with inter-disciplinary dimension.
The Centralised Remote Sensing and GIS Facility in SES is the pioneering facility for RS and GIS in a University in Kerala established with technical and financial support from ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India in 2003.
Rainwater for Humanity is a start-up community project in the Kuttanad region initiated by Mahatma Gandhi University School of Environmental Sciences in India and Brown University students and graduates in US.
WebGeo Explorer is a platform which is developed by Dr.R.Satheesh Centre for Remote Sensing and GIS in School of Environmental Sciences.This facility is used to publish geographical data outputs of various projects over internet.
